CHANGE: A CREATIVE JUMP-START!

Every so often we need a change, sometimes a big change. I’m in the midst of one now.

After the last 8 years in New York City, I’ve moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. From being surrounded by skyscrapers I’m now surrounded by mountains. And trees, and birds, and hills in which coyotes and elk and bobcats and bears live—although I haven’t seen any of them yet.

I’ve found my two favorite cafés in town and I spend some time in one of them each day, writing and reading.

My creativity is being stimulated by the new sights, sounds, the smells of nature all around me here, the birdsong, the wind in the trees that are budding with Spring.

One of the things I like most about my coaching business is that it’s portable. Anywhere on the planet that I can plug into the Internet, or get WiFi reception, I can be in touch with my coaching clients. That’s what made moving to Santa Fe possible.

A change every so often is especially important for a writer, or for any creative person. One of the definitions of creativity is seeing the world in new ways, and changing our everyday environment is one important way to do that.

Maybe your work life or other things prevent you from actually moving across the country, or even across town. But I recommend that you find ways to see the world around you with fresh eyes. Exploring parts of your hometown, or the area in which you live can do it. Making new friends, people you wouldn’t ordinarily get to know can do it. Reading a new kind of literature can do it.

So, what are you waiting for? How about a big change right now, today? Let me know how it goes!

BEYOND WRITER'S BLOCK WORKSHOP

Here’s what three past participants said about the Workshop:

“Writer’s block is gone! The creative challenges came in small doses, making writing, all of a sudden, actually fun. I’m amazed….” Elliot D.

“The workshop opened the flood gates to the writer in me that has been trying to get out for years. Thank you so much!” Kim A.

“I think that an entire new chapter in my life has been opened. All systems are now on ‘go.’ That has been your doing, Roy. Thank you so much!” John B.

I’m offering my life-changing Beyond Writer’s Block Workshop for writers who know they have it in them write, who want to write, but who are blocked.

If you can show up at your computer every day for two weeks with an open mind, and spend a half hour learning new ideas, principles, strategies, and writing behaviors you can change your writing life.

Prepare to be amazed!

I’ve seen the Workshop change so many lives that I guarantee it. If you complete the Workshop, do the exercises, and are still blocked, I’ll give you your money back, no questions asked.

The Beyond Writer’s Block Workshop starts February 29.

It will be the best $169 you ever spent on your writing. If you join before the 25th take 10% off the fee. Payment can be made through www.PayPal.com (easy, fast, free) or you can contact me for other payment options.

SHORT STORY WORKSHOP

*** Short Story Workshop Starts February 13. My most recent Short Story Workshop has recently ended, and another will start on February 13.

It's a 6 week workshop, conducted entirely by email (you don't even have to get out of your pajamas!), and costs $189, with a 10% discount for my current and former clients, and a 10% discount for Seniors. Pay through PayPal.com, or email me to make other arrangements. As with all my Workshops, it comes with a guarantee…if you complete the Workshop and are not satisfied, you get your money back.

Rather than tell you about the Workshop, I've asked Mike A. Williams, one of the participants in a recent workshop, to give you an idea of what to expect.

Mike A. Williams comments on a recent Short Story Workshop:

"I didn't have time to write; my plans were to continue with my 'real' career another 10 or 15 years, and then I would be able to take up writing. But...this seemed like a good opportunity to test my wings a little in a no-pressure situation. The cost was low enough and the time commitment was small enough, so I said 'What the heck' and signed up.

Right from the start, I was impressed with the format. Simple but effective techniques to help me get into it slowly....Just one easy step, then another, and before I knew it, half the story was already written. And then came the first draft, very rough, but worthy of the effort to polish it. That was a critical point for me, because I almost quit then (didn't know that, did you Roy?) My story ending was awful but I didn't have anything in mind to improve it. But the simple yet effective and timely advice that Roy gave at this point was to just sit down and write, even when you don't feel like it. I did, and the ending came, and I'm quite proud of it.

The really great part of this was the teamwork. When a group is looking over your work after each step and making suggestions and telling you which parts they liked or didn't like, it's a great motivator. The comments of the group were very helpful. But Roy is a real pro, and it shows. In my opinion, he has great instincts for what makes good writing and he can see how a story should be changed to make it more effective. He gives concrete reasons to back up his comments when he knows he's right and lets you know when he's just offering suggestions for you to think about. He takes your writing seriously and gives you what you paid for--serious help to become a better writer.

I learned a lot of things during this short workshop. If I wait 10 or 15 years to start my writing career, I'll be 10 or 15 years behind where I could be if I start now. I still don't have time to write, but I'm going to do it anyway. One story at a time."
